DEDICATED PADDED LAPTOP SLIP

Sewn into the back of the bag is a dedicated padded laptop slip designed to fit a 14" MacBook Pro or similar size device.

Please be aware:

The padded laptop slip remains in the bag even if the padded camera insert is removed, a good thing if you don't always carry cameras.
Older or larger 14" devices may not fit, however almost all modern devices such as the 14" MacBook Pro (2021), 13.5" Surface Laptop 3, 13.5" Surface Laptop 4, ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 10 (14") etc will fit. Basically, if the laptop has thin bezels it will fit well. A device with large bezels might rise slightly above the padded area or might not fit at all.
The 13" MacBook Pro, 13" MacBook Air and 13.6" MacBook Air of course fit great.
Almost all other 13" devices fit too.

PADDED INSERT LAYOUT OPTIONS

The bag comes with one 'Half Size Padded Insert' included, allowing you to use the other half of the bag for sandwiches, non-camera equipment or gear that doesn't need as much protection.

Not enough? You can purchase an optional second 'Half Size' insert or an optional 'Full Size' insert. The photo shows the 3 possible configurations.

The rear, left side, right side and bottom of the bag have mild padding sewn in, therefore you can use the bag without padded inserts as a normal messenger bag.

INCLUDED HALF SIZE INSERT

The included Half Size Insert will allow you to carry a small-to-medium camera with lens attached (and maybe another spare lens stacked underneath).

It can be fixed in on the left, right or centre of the bag.

1x horizontal flap divider is included and can be attached anywhere inside the insert with Velcro®.

FRONT DUMP POCKETS

Front dump pockets are perfect for cables, film, spare batteries and those little bits and bobs you want to keep separate.

An additional loop in the fabric on the side of the front pockets are a deliberate design feature to allow clip on pens.

REAR ZIPPED POCKET

The back pocket has a weatherproof zip which is covered by a slim piece of leather, helping to protect important documents from rain or snow.

The luggage trolley retainer strap is just below the opening to the back pocket.

QRS FRONT STRAPS AND SCULPTED TOP FLAP

The top-grain leather front straps have the 'Quick Release System' feature. Just slide the top of the strap up-and-off the brass clogball for instant access.

The buckles allow you to fine tune the 'fit' of the front pockets. You don't need to use the buckles to open the bag.

The sculpted top flap helps prevent rain, snow or unwanted fingers getting into the main compartment. It is made of the same 3-layer waterproof fabric as the rest of the bag.

REMOVABLE SHOULDER SLING

The Hadley One features a shoulder sling that can be adjusted longer or shorter to suit your height and shooting style.

It can also be completely and easily removed in seconds if you would prefer to carry the bag using only its top handle.

It is made from shuttle woven polyester and leather with solid brass fixings.

TOP HANDLE WITH LEATHER

An easy carry top handle with leather on the underside allows you to pick up and carry the bag with comfort, without using the shoulder sling.

The handle is reinforced with fibreglass to reduce stress on the bag as you lift it.

ABILITY TO ADD AVEA END POCKETS

The strong leather side panels allow you to attach AVEA 7 End Pockets or AVEA 8 End Pockets for additional storage.

HADLEY PRO 2020 VS HADLEY ONE

The Hadley One is slightly larger in all dimensions.
The Hadley One has a wider shoulder sling (50mm wide (2") vs 38mm wide (1½")).
There is a dedicated, padded 14 inch laptop slip in the Hadley One. The Hadley Pro 2020 doesn't have this so any laptop or tablet would have to be placed behind the padded insert and only be protected on one side.
The Hadley One comes with a Half Insert whereas the Hadley Pro 2020 comes with an insert that fills the main compartment. An optional full size insert can be purchased for the Hadley One.
Both bags have removable shoulder slings, rainproof zippers on the back and the newer design top-handle with leather underneath.

Remember that two 'Hadley One Half Size Padded Insert's can fit side-by-side inside the bag at once -a second one can be purchased as an optional extra. One will have to face forwards and the other face backwards to attach to the pop clips inside the main compartment.

PLEASE NOTE

Effective size of laptop slip will be narrower and shorter for thick laptops. It will need to be quite slim to use the full width and height. It will fit 13" and 14" MacBook Pros, 13" MacBook Airs, 12.9" iPad Pros and smaller devices. Owners of 15" inch MacBook Pros or 15" MacBook Airs should read the notes in the FAQs. 16" MacBook Pros definitely will not fit in.

LUGGAGE TROLLEY RETAINER STRAP

Luggage trolley strap retainer will fit handles approximately 270mm (10⅝") wide - however if the top of the handle is slightly larger than this fitting will usually still be possible.

Almost any 13" laptop (MacBook Pro, MacBook Air etc) plus some particularly small and slim 14" and 15" models in it's padded laptop compartment (check dimensions very carefully). The 14" MacBook Pro does fit.
Owners of the 15" MacBook Pro and MacBook Air should read the notes in the FAQs.
In the included half size insert: Most DSLRs (e.g. Canon 5D, Nikon D850 without battery grip) with small-to-medium lens attached and maybe a spare lens.
In the included half size insert: Almost any mirrorless camera (Sony A7IV, Fujifilm X-T4, Nikon Z7, Canon R6 without battery grip etc) with with small-to-medium lens attached and maybe a spare lens.
In the included half size insert: Any rangefinder camera (e.g. Leica M10) with almost any lens attached. With room left for an extra lens or maybe a second camera.
In the optional full size insert: Most DSLRs or mirrorless cameras with a small-to-medium lens attached (e.g. Canon 1DX, Canon 5D, Nikon D850, Canon R6, Nikon Z7 etc). Plus 2 to 4 lenses (tall enough for a 70-200mm not attached to the camera).

The SP50 shoulder pad fits the Hadley One.

The Hadley One is:

Slightly larger in all dimensions.
Has a wider shoulder sling (50mm wide (2") vs 38mm wide (1½")). That sling is also removable.
There is a special padded 13 inch laptop slip in the Hadley One. The Hadley Pro doesn't have this.
There is a luggage strap on the back to attach to a trolley suitcase.
The top handle has a leather lining underneath to make it more comfortable to carry.
The Hadley One comes with an insert that fills half the bag (instead of the whole bag as with the Hadley Pro) to make it easier to carry non-photographic equipment. You can add an optional second half-size insert, or an optional full size insert instead, if you want.
The Hadley One has a rainproof zip and leather flap to protect the rear pocket from water ingress. The Hadley Pro has a 'normal' zip and a fabric flap to protect from water ingress in the rear pocket.

The Eventer MKII comes with a full width, padded insert as standard. The Hadley One comes with half width padded insert (a full width one can be purchased as an optional extra).
The Eventer MKII comes with an SP50 Shoulder Pad. The Hadley One doesn’t include a Shoulder Pad, this has to be purchased as an optional extra.
The Eventer MKII comes with dual, stitched front straps that let you separately open the top flap while keeping the front pockets closed. The Hadley One comes with single, unstitched front straps that only open and close the top flap (the front pockets are closed with press studs on that bag).
The Eventer MKII doesn’t have a ‘Billingham’ leather patch on. The Hadley One does have a leather logo patch. Both bags have a fabric Billingham tag sewn into the outside of the seam.
The main compartment on the Eventer MKII is zipped. The Hadley One doesn’t have a zip on the main compartment, therefore when opening the bag the Hadley One will be slightly quicker to get into.
The padded insert for the Hadley One has a padded lid. The padded insert for the Eventer MKII does not have a padded lid.
The Hadley One can have end pockets attached, the Eventer MKII can’t.
The Hadley One has a removable shoulder sling, the Eventer MKII has a fixed shoulder sling. The slings on both bags are adjustable in length.
The Hadley One is fractionally wider and deeper (front to back). The Eventer MKII is slightly taller.
Hadley One laptop slip is sewn into the bag, so even when you remove the padded insert the laptop slip remains. In the Eventer MKII when you remove the padded insert, you also remove the padded laptop slip.

Yes and no! Whether or not the Hadley One camera bag can accommodate a 15 inch MacBook depends on the specific model. Our bag was not originally designed to hold such devices, however, some newer MacBook models are smaller and can indeed fit into the bag.

The 15" MacBook Air can be stored within the bag, but please be aware that it does very slightly protrude above the laptop compartment's padding. As for the 15" MacBook Pro (late 2016 model with Touch Bar), it does fit too, but it extends above the compartment padding a bit more than the Air.

Please be mindful that since these 15" MacBooks rise above the padding, they might not enjoy the same level of protection as the 13" and 14" models. Furthermore, depending on how you handle the bag, the top of your 15" MacBook, especially the 15" Pro, might experience friction against the bag's top flap. This could potentially cause wear over time that our warranty does not cover.

Despite these factors, many customers seem to be using our bag to carry these larger laptops without any reported issues. If you decide to follow suit, we recommend opting for the Hadley One in our FibreNyte material due to its enhanced wear resistance.

Please note that older 15" MacBook models, and the 16" MacBook, are too large and will not fit in the Hadley One's padded laptop compartment at all.

No - the 16 inch MacBook is too wide to fit in the back pocket. You can't even squeeze it in!

No, the padded laptop area is sewn into the back of the bag, however it is quite slim so doesn't add much bulk or weight.

No, you don't use the buckles to get into this bag. The buckles are only designed to occasionally adjust the front straps in height or to allow you to pack a little more or less into the bag. We recommend keeping the straps inside the buckle during normal use and only using the 'Quick Release Straps'.

For frequent usage, Hadley Front Straps are opened by sliding the top of the strap off the brass clogball (round stud). This is a very quick way to open and close the bag, many people learn to do this one-handed as the leather softens.

You can keep the bag itself open whilst shooting, just don't put the straps back on the clogball until you want to close bag.

No. The fabric is made of 3 layers - the middle layer is butyl rubber. Water cannot pass through this butyl rubber layer. As long as you don't get a hole in the fabric or expose it to harsh chemicals (for example in a washing machine) the fabric should remain waterproof for many years. There is no need to apply re-proofing.

In simple terms ‘Canvas’ or ‘FibreNyte’ refers to top layer of fabric on our bags – the facecloth.

‘Canvas’ is a mix of cotton and polyester. ‘FibreNyte’ refers to our face fabric that is completely synthetic. Canvas is hard wearing, FibreNyte is very hard wearing.

Both fabrics are bonded to a non-wicking polyester backing fabric with a middle layer butyl rubber – this rubber layer makes both fabrics equally (and very) waterproof. Water can’t get through that rubber layer.

Both fabrics have a similar weave - the FibreNyte looks similar to canvas. Canvas is slightly softer to the touch, FibreNyte is slightly rougher to the touch.

People tend to choose Canvas if they want the bag to age gracefully and look vintage over time. This is particularly true of people who chose our ‘Khaki Canvas’ fabric as this looks particularly lovely as it ages.

People tend to choose FibreNyte if they want the bag to look newer for longer or if they are particularly hard on their gear - for example by carrying the bag to work with them every day, doing a lot of hiking or filling it particularly full. If you are buying a black bag it’s particularly worth considering FibreNyte as it will stay looking blacker longer. Also Sage FibreNyte is particularly attractive as a colour – it’s probably the most popular colour among our staff!
